Need some advice. I recently bought an IWILL KK266 motherboard, new RAM (cas2 128MB) and an AMD DURON 800 to upgrade my computer. I had an ATI RAGE XPERT 128 PCI video card that I just wanted to get a little more use out of it while waiting for geforce 3 cards to drop in price. I put the system together, with the FSB jumper at 133 MHz. On boot, I got no video signal sent to my monitor. Every time this happened. Then, I reset the FSB jumper to 100 MHZ, and tried again. This time, I got video at boot, but it only lasts a couple minutes before things go crazy. I start getting purple, green, and grey rectangles on the screen, and then my computer freezes, or loses the video signal. I am guessing that there are problems with the video card, but I thought someone else might be able to shed a little more light on the issue. Thanks

First of all, the duron should be ran at 100 fsb. Now reset the cmos and try again.

ksallen, I'll keep this brief, but keep in mind that the original story is very long... :)

I researched like CRAZY on this, and I've found only 4 other people that had our issue - all of them had the same video card. I fixed mine temporarily by going to the "Advanced" button of the Display --> Settings box. From there, I had to REDUCE the hardware acceleration to the 2nd "line" on the sliding scale. This fixed all of my lockups, screen rectangles (the exact same thing), etc. HOWEVER, I couldn't play any games with Direct3D! So, if I was going to play a game, I would reboot, change the "slider" in the display properties to the 3rd "line", reboot, and then IMMEDIATELY try to get into the game.

I'm NOT sure about the 100 FSB issue, though. I didn't have problems with that.

In conclusion: I bought a Radeon LE from Newegg, downloaded Radeon Tweaker, and I now have the full ATI Radeon videocard running in my computer for about $50 less. If you're not sure what I'm talking about, please take the time to read this article. It will be very worthwhile!

Well, I got my system to function for long periods of time, but only after turning the hardware acceleration off completely. Thanks for the advice, but my goodness, what a piece of crap!
