I have Radeom 8500 128mb nonLE.
After reinstalling Windows XP, everytimes I install Catalyst driver from ATI or from Omega, after reboot, if I go to Advanced Setting on display Properties, my screen always blinking. It will on and off. It keep on going until right after you want to restart, at the text saying windows is shutting down, it stop blinking.

Any of you guys experienced the same problem?
Please share with me the fix.

I have the same problem with a 8500. Driver version makes no difference for me. Additionally, the problem is marginally worse when using DVI output, and much worse when running 3d applications (read: games). My solution: I've stopped playing 3d games. Spares me the cost of a new graphics card amd all the games I would have bought. Unfortunately for me, I don't have the money to afford either the card or the games, unless I don't mind starving for a few months.

Are you overclocking anything?
Do you have the Latest Bias update?
Did you install the latest Motherboard drivers before you installed the Catalyst?
Also did you try the Latest official ATi 3.6 drivers rather then just the Omega?

i had problems with 8500/le's

ati drivers are hit and miss, even among different versions, damned sorry of them considering when they work right the cards perform pretty well

You might want to try Driver Cleaner from www.driverheaven.net. Use the Cab cleaner in it with installs and go back to the 2.03 NF2 drivers. Make sure you load the driver first before the Control panel ones.

Since Cat 3.6 when I change resolution w/TV out Enabled my screen will blink repeatedly before it finally switches resolutions. Almost longer than the 15 seconds that it waits to ask you if you want these settings, (which seems to start after the first blink) which mean the PC thinks it made the switch already... this only seems to do this w/ the TV out enable tho'. I know this doesn't help you too much but it is a similar problem to yours. Like i said it didn't do this till Cat 3.6 for me. and its only when i'm changing resolutions, maybe it has to do with the refresh rate too? It could setting it too low for your monitor?

The only thing I can recommend is that you insure fastwrites is disabled in the motherboard's BIOS as well as in the ATI control panel (smartgart).

I successfully fixed the problem. Thank you guys.....

Here is what I did:
[*]Disable fast write from BIOS
[*]Use driver cleaner to clean all ATI and NVIDIA drivers
[*]Install the Catalyst v3.6 (w/out ATI Control Panel)
[*]Before restart, uninstall smartgart (downloaded from ATI website)
