Help: Athlon XP Barton or Thoroughbred?

Now I wish to upgrade my CPU, but I am not sure which one is better for me: Barton or Thoughbred? Barton is supposed to perform better, but since its clock freqency is lower, I think it is not suitable to run my statistics software. Am I right? Help please and I am waiting to put order at newegg... Thanks a lot!

single threading? stats proggie probably runs a lot of data through the same code, bigger cache is probably helpful... just oc it to get the mhz...
