Help! Athlon heating up

My athlon 1.33ghz used to have an idle temp of about 41-43 degrees C. Now, just a few weeks later, the idle temp is 49-51 degrees C. I haven't changed anything in the computer and although the room temperature is up a little (maybe 1-2 degrees) because of current weather, I don't think it would be the cause.

Anybody ever have anything like this happen to them? I checked all my fans and they are still working fine.

I just downloaded 3dmark 2001 and I can only get through about 3 tests before the entire computer locks up. The cpu is at about 54 degrees C when it locks.

Yes, do the thing TunaBoo suggested.

Also, I'm surprised your CPU locks up when it reaches 54C. I think it's either defective, or your temperature readings are incorrect. Mine locks up at 60C, which is still below the AMD-specified 65C.

I'm pretty sure that the internal cpu temp would be higher than what my 8k7a reports so that is probably why it locks at 54C.

Tunaboo Thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely do that to see if it helps.

Any other ideas?
