The frustration of that is a good reason to go with another motherboard. ;)

I'm on hold with ASUS. I'm going to ask why that is even there. Forum searches for the error on minimum requirements says that it's not necessary.

So ASUS suggested everything I tried. The guy told me that the prerequisites for the acceleration drivers are the management engine driver and the chipset driver, and I have both. He also suggested the driver update utility which found nothing of note.

They are going to try to replicate it with the same hardware.

@Smoove910 thanks. Couple of thoughts:
* The Microsoft article says I should "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" - which may not be applicable since this issue happens in safe mode.

* The superuser URL is something I stumbled upon earlier but it's not exactly cut and dry. I'm not experiencing issues when the cursor changes. It just happens randomly. It also happens on single monitors so the dual monitor suggestion per the answer there wouldn't apply in this case. His links also go to the 2nd Generation Intel Core Processors with Intel HD Graphics. Yeah, not so much :)

Meanwhile, for whatever reason, it decided to behave, but for how long, I have no idea...

Thanks all. I think I'll just get a new motherboard. As for which mobo, I ask here in case you have suggestions for me :)

The Intel Graphics Accelerator Driver is for onboard video only. It won't hurt anything to have it, but not necessary if you are using the AMD card only. I hope Asus is able to give you some feedback on this.

They didn't :( They just took my config and said they'd try to reproduce. Regardless, I told them I'm going with an MSI board next time around.

I can't tell you how annoying it is to lose your mouse on two 2560x1440 displays because you're shaking it furiously to wake it up from whatever it is that's slowing it down.

So, we are thinking it is the motherboard because the same video configuration worked on your last setup, right?

Did you have different screens? If so, what happens if you run the resolution you were at before?

Were you run different drivers? Try running the drivers you had then.

In other words, I don't know if you are trying things you haven't mentioned on this forum, but don't quit and just blame it on the motherboard until you are ready to buy another one.

I will say this is pretty much inline with an Asus board: either the best board you have ever owned or the most frustrating thing ever.

I was very much ready to buy another motherboard, ketchup ;) This was especially true because the return window for my Micro Center was closing. I ended up swapping the motherboard and the problem is gone. I'm now using the MSI Z97 Gaming 5. Money out of pocket: $0! Score!

All the hardware for video was the same (same monitors, same card). I guess there was some sort of incompatibility somewhere. I had this issue a few years ago when the hard drive of all things caused blue screens with the chipset I had been using beforehand (and that time, I swapped out my motherboard to no avail :( ). See this if you are curious.

One last question that has no relationship whatsoever to the thread:

Why does the first DIMM for RAM *have* to be on top of the motherboard? I can't get my Zalman heatsink installed because neither mobo POSTs...

I'm confused, how do you know if it's working if neither motherboard POSTs?

Are you using slot DIMM 2 and DIMM 4 per your manual on page 1-15?

Aha, so I saw the manual and I thought I had to do DIMM 2 first, then 3, and then 4. That was saying I should do 2 first, and then 4? Might be better ;)

So... funny. DIMM 2 and 4 didn't POST.

Support told me to RMA it or return it because I wasn't getting Dual Channel, only Single.

The new motherboard I installed spontaneously combusted as soon as I gave it power. Literally. The thing caught fire.

(This happened to me in 2004 as well and I posted on AT at the time too.)

So... now I am on a new motherboard. DIMM 2 & 4 actually work as expected. And the thing didn't catch fire.

:)

Gotta love that it took 4 motherboards to get one that works. Except not 100%... but I'll save that for another thread. ha
