I bought a K6-2 400 for my nephew's socket-7 system because I read that it would support it. It runs fine at 2.2V and 6x66 (400MHz) but locks-up when loading Win98. I lowered the chip to 200MHz and still no good. It's not too hot and getting the right voltage. I even flashed it with ASUS's latest beta BIOS 0112.01 and it detects it as a K6-2 400.

Is there something I have to change in the BIOS settings? Please help me to make this guy a happy camper.

Thanks, Olias

Are you using an AGP video card?
No, there are only PCI and ISA slots on the ASUS TX97-LE

I read somewhere that it may have to do with "Write Allocation" and "Speculative Write Ordering" settings.

Anybody...

Does it consistantly lock up at the same point?

Yes it does. About 3 seconds after the loading Windows 98 screen comes up. So I thought I would try reloading Windows but then it would consistantly lock on the boot floppy when it's loading the RAM disk. Maybe it has something to do with high memory above 640K???
