I am assembling my first system and have all SCSI drives. I have read several how-to guides on the net on building pc's, but they all deal with IDE systems. Is there anything different that I should know about assembling a SCSI system? Any tips, hints, info. would be appreciated.

Congrats. First of all, READ THE MANUAL(S). They are more helpful than you think when it comes to this SCSI stuff. Some general tips I can offer:

The host adapter settings are very important as they determine if all the devices connected to the SCSI chain will work. Stick with factory default settings in the SCSI BIOS. Make sure all drives are set to different SCSI IDs, conflicts will cause the drives to be not recognized. If possible, use SCAM (SCSI Configured Auto-Magically) which is like Plug & Play for SCSI where the settings are configured automatically. Termination is the second trap. The last device on the SCSI chain (physically the farthest away from the host adapter) must have termination set on. There should be one terminating device on each internal chain and one on the external chain.

Don't panic if something isn't recognized the first boot. Just take your time and test your settings.

watch you scsi IDs. (default 0 is the boot id)
termination termaination. this is where most mess up at
parity is good
and you want to set your scsi hd to auto spin. (some this option is the default while others you need to set the jumper.
cables. you the right ones
