Hey,

I just got a LiteOn 24x CD-RW today, and installed it... *BOTH DRIVES ARE RECOGNIZED BY THE BIOS WHEN POSTed*

But when I go to "my computer", I only see the a drive and the hard drive... both of my disc drives have vanished!

Also, in device manager, a red x is on top of my DVD-ROM drive, and when clicked, there is a message that says "the device is not working properly because a device it depends on, Secondary IDE Controller (dual fifo), has been dynamically disabled"

and the CD-RW is listed as "Secondary IDE controller" under hard disk controllers... it has a yellow exclamation point on it.

*The dvd-rom drive is master, and the cd-rw is slave*

Here's my system...

WinME
1.4 T-Bird 266fsb
384MB PC2100 DDR Crucial
20.0 WD HDD
GeForce2MX 200 AGP
SBLive! value 5.1
Affreey DVD-ROM 10x
... and my new LiteOn 24/10/40

What's going on?

are you drives set right? Is one slaved and the other set to master? If you didnt change any setting chances are thats the problem.

LiteOn's drive comes with the jumper in the "slave" position, so if you forgot to change that, it could be just that.

I don't know. I have the same burner and it works just fine with my DVD...

try lookin in the registry for noide entry.
Click Start, then Run... , and type regedit
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\IOS
if you should see a value named "NoIDE". Delete it, close regedit and reboot!

the drives are recognized in bios, just not windowsME...

can anybody offer any more help? it's gotta be software related, because bios recognizes it...

If I take one of the drives out of my system, the other drive works fine... but I want both to work at the same time for on-the-fly CD copying... who can help me out?
