i followed the directions, and pushed with very little pressure for about 30 seconds, then the stuff squirted EVERYWHERE, all over my core, and the ceramic. now i can't get it off the ceramic! should i even care about this? i was using nail polish remover to get it off, and it worked fine on the core, and my hands, but i can't get it off the ceramic! please advise.

no, i haven't tried the alcohol yet, i just heard acetone is the best, and dammit, i just saw that this nail polish remover is non-acetone... my main concern, is should i care that it's on the ceramic?

I had an identical ASGII spill. After trying everything from rubbing alcohol to washing my Tbird in a hot jet of water followed by an ultra-hot hair dryer (not kidding! I can't believe it survived) I finally found something that worked: clear tape. Use a pointed object to wrap the tape around the fine edges, then remove the ASGII one layer at a time.

Still using that Tbird chip!

yeah.. that thing was crazy.. tried to squeeze a little on my hand before i applied on core.. oh man.. got all over.. then i tried washing it.. then i got silver hands.. haha.. then i busted out some dial soap and it got it out...
hmm.. dial soap? try that maybe.. haha.. (do at your own risk)
before pushing the syringe down, i twisted then pushed down.. and it worked good

Same here, got ASII all over the chip and couldn't get it off. I didn't have any rubbing alcohol. Tried to clean it off as best as I could, ended up just using it anyways. I remember somewhere saying that ASII was generally non-conductive . . .

Leo V: Hell, you've put your computer through everything haven't you? :b

Same thing here - use butane to get the worst of it off, my chip still has a silver stain on it. Hasn't damaged it at all though...

Believe it or not, I've used Dawn and warm water and washed it in the kitchen sink with a toothbrush. Then, after completely dry (I give it about a day... just to be sure) it's as good as new!

Well, I didn't have any acetone. Didn't think that water would've help.
So I grabbed what I thought would be easiest....after shave. Hey, it worked for me! ;) No kidding! My cpu smells like a tough guy now!
lol!

I've washed CPU's in water before, it's not that big of a deal... Using soap, however, is.

Rubbing alcohol and Nail polish remover. Takes a while, need a bunch of clean wiping surfaces cause it'l pick some up, then spread it even more. always use a clean surface. I did the same thing on my athlon....doh, took a while to clean off, but it did all come off eventually (20 minutes of cleaning and about 30 q-tips)

Oh gosh... It's not just arctic silver II. The regular stuff smears just as badly and I found the good ole acetone wasn't enough once it got on the substrate (it was fine for the core portion only). Only thing that helped (even better than isopropyl "rubbing" alcohol) was ethyl alcohol (also sold as "rubbing alcohol"). The stuff was like desitin (in fact, the 2 share common ingredients I expect, as most thermal pastes are zinc oxide like desitin).

i always use this stuff, it's for hobbyists, i have some for my R/C cars... it's called "motor spray" i just spray some on a paper towel or napkin and wipe, ASG comes right off...

the spray evaporates too like alchohol too...

How much of the arctic silver II do you really need on a tbird? How thin should the layer be?

just a real thin layer, just enough to spread out vnly and get full coverage. You dont want any clumps or mounds of it in there. I spread it out smooth with the edge of a credit card, and wipe away the excess.

grape juice dethroned!

Artic Silver 2 is the new stain menace....

That stuff is so hard to get off things it is kind of funny... (of course it could be the heavy metal poisoning I received from it has altered my sense of humor)

Two things:automotive brake cleaner works pretty good to clean up the AS second if you keep the cap on the syringe push on a flat surface then squeeze the syringe like you are trying to get the grease out it puts internal pressure in the tube, keep holding the cap down to the table let pressure off plunger you will see it move back out of the tube just a little take the cap off and then very little pressure will be needed to get the AS out onto the chip that's the way I do it now and it works great:cool:

i know how ya feel, same thing happened to me, I tried to squirt a little, crap went everywhere, i was like wtf!!!tried forever to get the crap off with alcohol, residue was everywhere and they say its not conductive, but processor wasnt stable at all, had to get a new one, we should sue arctic silver for telling us to put directly on core like in their pictures when we should not apply it that way, wtf were they thinking? conspiracy with chip manufacturers aye? hey, u never know, lol
