help - appropriate ppi and dpi for printing digital pictures from a70

Finally got around to finish optimizing all my pictures from all the bday's and Christmas. =)

I'm thinking of taking my pictures to Costco (as many on the board has suggested). My question was, how should I re-size and set my ppi to? I've reading different websites and I think the general consesus was 300ppi for a 4x6. I've also read that it depends on the printer, I believe Costco ranges between a FujiFilm and Kodak machine, should I stick with the 300ppi number or less?

for example:

4x6 --> 300ppi

8x10 --> 400ppi

Thanks in adv.

are you sure? have you tried something lower? or are you trying to say anything less than 600dpi it'll look grainy ..

no 300 will look fine but if the place you go has printers that can do 600 they will look better. if not a 600 dpi pic printed at 300 will look the same as 300 at 300

the standard MINIMUM for prints for all my graphics classes print quality is 300dpi. However, if you have a printer that does better, why not make use of it?
