Help and Support taking up 90% of CPU resources?!

My friend and I were working on a computer remotely over VNC, removing spyware and viruses and the like. I went to dinner, and when I came back, I found that my friend had began the installation of Service Pack 2. The problem is, the status of the installation had not moved for over three hours. I checked Task Manager, and saw that helpsvc.exe was taking up anywhere from 75%-90% of CPU resources, and update.exe was therefore receiving 0%. I first went into services.msc and stopped/disabled the Help and Support service, but it was still in the Task Manager. When I attempted to end the process, it told me that access was denied. I tried setting its CPU usage to low and update.exe's to high, but that failed as well. I then reinstalled all of XP's PC Health services, but the problem still persisted. I cannot just restart the computer, as I'm assuming its being halfway through SP2 installation would present some nasty glitches and errors. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm really at the end of my rope. Thanks!

I would, but I don't have physical access to this computer, and doubt that its owner would be too happy with a format.
