well, i will be helping to put together a new system for my friend, and i was wondering how to setup the IDE drives. I have never actually worked on an IDE system :Q, with all my comps being scsi with maybe the occasional ide cdrom. he will have a hard drive, a dvd, and a cdrw. should i put the dvd on the primary slave, or on the secondary channel? i think he will be doing cd-cd copies, and burning stuff from the hard drive sometimes, not really sure. so what is the best setup? and if i put the dvd on the secondary, should it be master or slave?

thanks guys,
scsi dude

For CD to CD copies:

Primary Master==HD
PrimarySlave==DVD

Secondary Master==Burner

I find it's better to do Primary==HD and Secondary Master==Burner, Secondary Slave==DVD, even if it requires more buffering for burns.

Agree, but if you play DVD and the pics is not smooth and DMA is already enabled, you can try switching the CD-RW with the DVD. Ensure the drives are jumpered correctly. Check the manuals.
