I need your help! I'm at my wits end with this.

I won a AMD Athlon 1800+ chip / GA-7DX mobo combo from the AMD online drawing in December and I can't get it to work. I sent one set back and just got the replacement set today and it still won't boot up.

I have an Antec tower with 300 watt ps., 512 meg DDR, Radeon 7500 video, 110 gig HD, 3.5 floppy, dvd, cdrw. When I power up, the fans work and I get a light on the motherboard that goes on, but NO video, no boot noise, and nothing on the floppy or hard drive. When I unplug the HD ribbon and turn on, the dHD finally spins and makes noise, but the monitor never works, The monitor is good, I use it on this computer.

Chip and heat sink are on OK, ram and video are seated, I can even disconnected the drives and it still wont do anything. There is no memory check, nothing on the monitor. The monitor stays on standby. I power off and on the monitor, it goes to standby. All the jumpers are on default. I can't figure this out.

Any clue or any ideas that I might try???

I have the same setup: Athlon w/gigabyte 7DX.

I believe you have an issue with the STR function. I've never been able to get my board to post with it
enabled.

I disabled the STR jumper (J18) on mine because I couldn't get it to post with it enabled (default value). I
assumed it was because I use an older PS that might not be compliant.

I would disable/remove that jumper and try it. There is a section in the manual that deals with STR.

Hope that helps.
