I just purchased a Diamond amd 5970 video card during neweggs black friday sale for 300$. I have always been Nvidia, and since I have received this card it was been nothing but trouble. First off, I cannot get it to display 120hz in games, it displays 120hz on desktop, but not games. I checked all the settings and vsync is off and I am using a dual link dvi cable to a Viewsonic vx2268wm 22" lcd 120hz monitor, i also have checked the windows settings too. I have used multiple different drivers including the newest one. Any suggestions for this?

Secondly, whenever I play battlefield bad company 2 it displays very weird colors (purple, red, blue) and shutters pretty bad. I have read many issues on this, and it seems to be a problem for battlefield 3..The performance is not what I expected it seems very choppy and shuttery. Performance in a few other games is pretty good, but all games should run well.

Thirdly, under the ati control panel it says that the second adapter (the second gpu for the video card) is disabled. However this isnt as big of an issue because I believe it is working, but why does it say this?

So to sum it up -
Is this card compitable with this mobo/monitor?
Can this card display 120hz on this monitor?
Does the card need to be rma'd, or is it just driver issues?
Does this card shutter or anything on battlefield 3?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!

Now to finish it off I am using Windows XP Professional SP3.(will be getting windows 7 64 bit soon, maybe that will help?)
RIG:
AMD Diamond 5970 2gb video card
Asus nvidia m3n72-d mobo
4gb ddr3 pc6400
amd phenom II x4 @3.4ghz
160gb hd
Viewsonic vx2268wm 22" 120hz lcd monitor
750w ultra psu

Nvidia motherboards do not support crossfire. Even though it is one card, crossfire is not enabled.

Really? are you sure? I have seen many people online with this mobo and video card combo but not sure if they had problems too, but I have heard that before, but i have also heard that it does work. Do you have a link or something I can read up on? any help would be great!

what card were you using before? I had problems with my 4870X2 until I used driver cleaner to wipe out my gtx 280 drivers

is it worth it to buy another motherboard if that is the problem... i mean i dont wanna go spending more money if it doesnt support 120hz.. i want 80-100 fps in bf3 on high settings (dont need ultra) and 120hz... this card should perform very well but i cant get it to do what i want lol

I think your CPU is going to be the biggest limiting factor, so if you're on a budget, I'd suggest you go the X6 1090T @ 4.0GHz and AM3+ route while you're at it. $300 will have you riding that HD5970 potentially to 90-100% usage in BF3. while being able to upgrade to a hopefully much improved Bulldozer Next-Gen chip.

If he's going to spend that much money, wouldn't it make more sense to make the jump to Sandy Bridge? He could get a 2120 and z68 mobo for < $300, or a 2500k and z68 for < $400 (maybe even close to $300 if he has an MC near).

A low end Sb will bottleneck an HD5970 in BF3, it's either an X6 or a 2500k and he's clearly on a budget.

I have the same 5970, and I run dual OS on my PC. On XP, the second GPU will be disable and have problems with games. And it have no problem running on windows 7. Also the second GPU will be display as enabled. Give it a try.^_^

Try getting Windows 7 64 Bit first, if it doesn't work you can always just re-install once you get a new motherboard.

The 5970 definitely supports 120hz monitors as long as you use a dual link DVI cable.

If you end up getting a new motherboard and CPU I recommend a i5 2500k over anything AMD has out right now, get that and decent $100 Z68 motherboard and you should be fine.
