Hello gents!

I'm going to be upgrading my rig and just need a feedback.
My current specs

*i72600k STOCK
*hyperX 10th anniversay edition 16GB dd3-1600mhz CL10 dual channel kit 2X8Gb
*corsair professional series gold ax 1200 psu
* P8z68-V PRO
*M4 256 SSD
*evga GTX 580 3GB X2 STOCK

^ Changing my video card to the new 780 3gb ram from asus
Some has changed and that's my current rig

MY question would be, since I have an older generation hardware "2nd generation of Processor and Motherboard, should I buy the newer i7 4th generation processor and change the motherboard for it to be compatible.

Or would I be ok just by upgrading my videocard to the 780 without a hitch. Will I be bottlenecking my performance?

If you're wondering where those other 2 cards are going, they'll be given to a friend and a cousin of mine.

Just finished reading this thread

It seems like some people have 2nd generation processors with the latest GPU's and it seems to work fine.
As an example I5-2500 with a 7970
or i73000 series with a 770

I think a i72600K with a 780 should be fine then. I initially though that it would be beneficial if I matched it a i74000 series to avoid the problems of bottlenecking :/

I would overclock your cpu. It shouldn't be that difficult to get around 4.5ghz and will give you a bit more oomph.

Should almost be a crime to own a k series chip and a ocing motherboard and not overclock such a chip, even if its a measly 4ghz or something.:)

Wait, are you running 580 SLI? Because if you are, a 780 is a sidegrade if not an outright downgrade.

Also, to answer the question you asked, yes, a stock 2600K would bottleneck a 780 slightly (it can even bottleneck a 680 a bit). But an overclock above 4GHz should take care of that, as others have mentioned.

Termie, remember BFG's titan review ? he said even a stock clocked 2500K was not bottlenecking a Titan. So I doubt a 780 will be bottlenecked by a 2600K.

Even not OCed that 2600k is not a bottleneck. Look at CPU usage during a game.

20 percent or 70 percent heavy BF4 64 player server.

2600k to haswell is even a side grade.. for what 12 percent more powerful. Rather put a ubber cooler and shoot for high Ghz as well,, you can do 4.6Ghz on pretty much any 2600k if you have proper cooling and know what your doing.

Bottlenecks happen from time to time depending on the game and settings you use. I'm always shooting for 80+ FPS at all times, in which case, no CPU never bottlenecks. There are just times when you get slowed down due to the CPU, but all you can do it just OC a bit and live with it.

If you only care about having 40 FPS, then it is not going to be a problem, and it will be rare that your CPU can't get you there.
