first off, i am pissed as hell that it doesnt have HSF mounting holes! with my gforce3 ti200, i moded a pentium1 hsf on it and have almost no heat with 250/550. i know i could get it to hit 300/600 easy but need to mod the ram sinks. ANYWAYS,

WHAT is the best way of removing the 8500 HSF??

1. Get the card really hot, shut down the machine, and pop off the heatsink.
2. Put the card in a bag, and put in the freezer for about 10-15 mins.

Use a credit card between the board, and a screwdriver, or some say popcicle stick to pry the heatsink off. I used a screwdriver for mine, using method 1.

That is all I did. Used a credit card and a flat head screwdriver. I didn't do any of the heating up cooling down stuff. It's attached with thermal epoxy and it will just pop off with enough pressure.

how did you guys attach your new hsf. im thinking of using aluminum thermal tape with the center cut out to apply paste, so the outer edges will stick to the hsf and proc and the centered paste will do the coolin? let me know what u think and any ideas that anyone might have!!!

oh, and if possible, could holes be drilled (without damage to the card) in the pcb around the proc so that i could attach a hsf with nylon screws?
