Help adding a 2nd wireless router

I have a work room outside, which is currently connected to the net via an old Linksys WAP11 wireless bridge. The house side of the wireless bridge is connected to a Netgear DG834G ADSL Wireless Router, which serves as the DHCP server. Inside the workroom, I have an old router connected to the wireless bridge and everything works great. I am now trying to add a Linksys WRT310N wireless router inside the work room. I have given the router an IP address that is not currently in use. I have also disabled DHCP on this router, as the Netgear assigns the IP's.
When I connect the new Linksys WRT310N to one of the ports in the back of the Netgear router, I am able to access the Linksys wirelessly and get on the net. If I disconnect it and plug it into the router in the work room, I can still connect to the router, but I can't get an IP.
I have tried using crossover cables, as well as connecting it directly to the work room side of the wireless bridge, but I still can't get an IP when I connect to it.

I'm stumped, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? What is the Model and WAN/LAN IP of the old router connected to the WAP11, is there a reason you need the old router in between the AP and the WRT310N.

If all you're trying to do is extend your network in the garage, the WRT310N is supported by DDWRT and will run in Client Bridge Mode.

I worded some of it incorrectly. Connected to the WAP11 in the work room is an old Hub, not a router. I don't really need it, since the WRT310N already has four ports. All I'm trying to do is make it so that I can take my laptop to the work room and be able to connect to the net through a wireless connection. I'm just a bit confused as to why the WRT310N would work fine when connected to one of the ports on the DG834G (no problems getting an ip when connecting through it), but not when it's connected to the hub on the other side of the wireless bridge. Other computers connected to the hub have no problem getting an IP, but if I try to connect through the WRT310N, I can't get an IP.

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks.

Assuming that you corretly configured the WRT310 to work as an Access Point with a switch (and Not as a Router). http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html

Could be a Cable type issue (straight, crossover) between the WRT310 and the old WAP11.

Thanks for the link. This is pretty much what I tried, although I didn't set it's IP outside the DHCP's IP range. I'll change that. I also tried both straight & crossover cables, with no luck.
I'm sure it's some stupid thing that I'm overlooking.

Make sure you are setting the router's LAN IP as well, just setting the IP as static wont work well, that is for a WAN connection. Ive seen that mistake made before, there is a difference between assigning it a WAN IP and a LAN IP.
