HELP! Accidentally deleted a partition. Need to recover it.

I booted off the windows xp CD to partition an extra hard drive, but accidentally I deleted the main partition of my boot drive. i had to quickformat it to install windows on another drive. i am not writing any files to the drive at the moment and there must be a way to retreive the partition. i heard as long as you don't overwrite the data, you can somehow recover it. can someone help me recover that lost partition?

acronis disk suite worked for me before... it is a bit slow tho. don't try the newer norton's (past 2k4) they sux

Sounds like you just deleted the partition table data for it. If so, TestDisk should do the job. It's OSS and free, saved my A$$ after a failed linux installation fvcked up my MBR.

If you reformatted the partition you are trying to recover, Active Partition Recovery should do the trick.
