Help accessing non-raid HD on raid port under Win98.

I'm using a Iwill KK266-R. I wanted to add a HD using one of the raid ports. It shows up under device manager in Window98 but I can't see it in Explorer or access it in any way. Can anyone give me a nudge in the right direction?

This drive is NOT a boot drive and it's jumpered as a 'single'.

Thanks.

I've looked on the FAQ site but didn't get any new ideas. Maybe I need to uninstall the raid drivers but it sure doesn't seem like I should have to from what I've read. What I don't get is that I can pull up the properties on that drive under windows but it doesn't show up in Explorer...Windows knows it's there so what the he11's the problem? I'll look over the FAQ site some more...I could have missed something that would help.

I appreciate the link...thanks.

Perhaps you need to fdisk and format the drive under DOS first? Dunno... I would think you could do that through Windows if it shows up in Device Manager, but it could be worth a try. Though you might need to move it to a non-RAID port to see it in DOS first.

Also, have you tried other jumper settings? Maybe the RAID card doesn't like "single"?

I tried it as master but then it gets a "scanning for primary master..." message and just sits there. I left it that way for about 20 minutes and it never went any further. I also tried the single drive as an array. Nothing has worked yet. Kinda frustrating.

I noticed that under the properties for that drive it doesn't have a 'DMA' check box. It's like Win98 is treating it as a removable drive.

I've tried everything but reformatting the drive. It's currently formatted to fat32 since it was pulled out of a system with a working OS on it. Could the fact that it's an active partition be the problem?

OK, I lied...one more bump 🙂 I can't find anything about my particular problem...I've tried all the stuff suggested on the Iwill Raid forum. No luck.

Help me Anand-won Kenobi...you are my final hope.
