Help about FSB's

I am currently running a P3 500@560 with no tweaks on voltage and it's completely stable. I may push it a little more but I want to be sure not to damage some of my components because I don't have any money for my computer right now (University student's budget...). So what is the maximum FSB you can have without damaging HD/RAM and Video Card....

Forgot to put system specs:
P3 500 (Katmai)
128megs of ElCheapo RAM (PC100)
256megs of Micron RAM (PC133)
Abit BE-6 with latest BIOS
TNT2 Ultra video card (V770 Ultra by Diamond)
Yamaha CRW8424
LG 16X DVD
WD 40 gigs@7200 RPM HD
Ethernet card (SMC)

Sorry to say so but your Katmai will hardly go above 112FSB because 600+ mhz is the limit for its 0.25micron core architecture....
To achieve this on your BE-6 which I owned for about 2 yrs, u must set the in the Softmenu bios page,
1. AGP/CPU multiplier to 2/3 if it's not this way and your Ultra will be working @74.6mhz in hapiness
2. Signal selector to High and maybe play a bit higher with its core voltage (only 0.10v maximum to keep your temps low and your cpu stable)
3. Do not worry for the PCI bus and devices, cuz it will be 1/3 of 112 by the mobo that is 37.3mhz which is absolutely safe.
4. Your RAM is always set by the mobo to 1/1 and your..... elcheapo PC100 won't have any problems working 12mhz higher (at least I hope so...).

P.S: Didn't know that this monster mobo can even fit 2 different kinds of RAM on it....:Q

Thanks for helping. I run completely stable at this speed but when I try 124mhz FSB the system won't boot. Guess it's my PC-100.... Well... 560 is not too bad considering that I'll get a 1.6a in 1-2 months (With a new case and all... I'm so excited !)

Why did you try 124mhz? It wouldn't boot for sure....That's why I insisted on talking exactly about 112FSB. It's a much better gain than your 560 and I strongly believe it will be as stable as it is now..... Try and post back!

I had a P3 500 (Katmai) about 4 or 5 CPU's ago and 560 was the limit. Your not going to get much higher than that. You may want to consider getting a PIII 600 or 700 cumine. These can be found for about $60 and are almost guarrenteed to do 800 and 933, respectively.

Almost all PIII Cumines will run with at least 133MHz FSB for a nice overclock.

Thanks guys. I'm still running@560 and no problems but I won't buy a CuMine. Hey! why get a CuMine when you can get a (raises finger to the mouth) a P4 1.6 in two months from now =) (Yeah I'll have the money.....)

What do you thing of these tentative specs?

P4 1.6a
Asus mobo (DDR RAM... I don't know if it's going to be SiS or Intel chipset though)
Antec 830SX case
GeForce3 Ti 200 or GeForce4 Ti 4200

I may buy a new monitor (19") if I can find one that's cheap (~$300) any suggestions?

GF4 would be the better choice if you can afford it ,as for CPU's I'd rather go for an Ath XP myself(throughbred will be out soon) ,better performance for your $.Either way Asus are good m/brds
