Help. Abit KT7 Occasional Stall @ Splash Screen or Loading Windows 98 SE.

Trying to help a friend. Title says it. Every two or three reboots, this thing stalls at the Windows splash screen or at the desktop before any icons load.

Abit K7V
512 MB PC133 SD RAM
S3 Trio
Maxtor 20 GB ATA 100

I've updated the BIOS and the VIA drivers. NAV reports no viruses. Norton Win Doctor reports no problems. Defragged and scanned everything. All RAM and other settings at most conservative timings.

Any ideas?

use upto via 38v drivers only. any higher version will be unstable

I had the same problem w/ kt7-raid.
