Please help me out, my chipset fan is making weird clicking noises that sound a bit like a floppy drive going at it. When i unplug the chipset fan it goes away. Question one:

Is it safe for me to unplug the chipset fan and not worry about it overheating? I have a nice case (coolermaster cavalier) that has a good airflow, 120mm in the back 80 in the front.

If its not good for the chipset to unplug the fan, what can i do to stop this noise, please help me!

I have an ASUS A8N-E and just realized today that the chipset fan failed and hasn't been working for nearly a week. I never experienced any signs of instability during this time and I'm overclocking the system too. So, even though the chip is very hot it didn't seem to cause any problems. Just now I unplugged the nonworking chipset fan and stuck a 80mm fan in the case pointed at the chipset. This should keep it cool enough until I am able to replace the chipset fan. I'd recommend you do the same.

The best way is remove the chipset heatsink/fan and attach Zalman ZM-NB47J (around $8 shipped or $10 shipped).
