Help a wireless networking newbie out...

Cable modems finally became available in our area this month. I have them coming on Friday to install.

What do I need to set up a home wireless network on the cheap?

I did a little research online and I believe all I need is a wireless router and a wirelss PCI card for my desktop PC. I already have a wireless card for my notebook I use at work.

Is there any reason I can't go on Pricewatch or to Newegg and buy the cheapest wireless router and PCI card available?

Reading the reviews and based on the prices I'd probably order these:

I'm assuming since they're the same brand I'll avoid any compatability issues.

Will I need any sort of IP sharing device or program?

Best brand out there is LinkSys. Their most popular router is the WRT54G or WRT54GS. You can buy some cheapie router but many people have issues with various brands. LinkSys is normally considered the top brand by most people.

But brands aside... Yes. You need a router and a card.

The Newegg is not such a good deal, since the hardware is 802.11b

Both Staples and CompUSA have this week on sale 802.11g for $5 more per piece.

In general: Wireless What Should I Get?

If you want to spend much more money the real Good Stuff is the Buffalo Tech. line. It is faster more stable and totaly compatible with Windows Zero Confoguration.
