I need some examples of the usage of tone in literature. Different tones that a writer can use are: critical, angry, dramatic, sarcastic, sad, remorseful, apprehensive, factual, regretful, dreamy, detached, threatening, ironic, patronizing...... and on and on....
I need a quote that reflects a specific tone. it can be a tone i listed or a different one. The quote can be from any peice of writing (the bible, calvin and hobbes, anything.......) By qoute i mean a snippet of text from a book that reflects that tone. I need 10 examples, each one for a different Tone. uhhhh so anyone want to take a look ina book or something and find an example of a tone.

her'es an example of what i mean:'

---------------------------
Tone: Sarcastic

Definition: Expressing a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain.

Example: ?I don?t have any pictures around, and I haven?t had any taken for many years, except by newspaper photographers and the like. Maybe a couple will turn up one of these days, and so I will keep your letter on file in a folder all by itself.? (Selected Letters of James Thurber by Helen Thurber)

Explanation: It is impossible to know weather this sentence is sarcastic or not without first knowing what the hell it is talking about. This quote is from a book of selected letters which were written by James Thurber. James Thurber was a distinguished literary figure of his time who wrote entertaining letters to his friends about all sorts of stuff and in doing so built up a large fan base. His letters were often very sarcastic. The example is a quote from a letter he wrote in response to someone requesting a picture of him. The sarcasm in the example is that he saying that he will keep her letter on file in a folder all by itself in case he finds a picture to send her. He is joking and his tone is very sarcastic.
-------------------------------------------

This is a longshot, but anyone want to throw a few examples my way. I just got 2 fillings and am not going to be able to finish tonight, so if i could get some from you people that would help alot. Thanks!

Um, that was sort of the point. You're about as sharp as a cotton ball and twice as deadly, aren't you?

Since we're on the subject of other people's work, does someone want to cluster my SQL server so that I can start creating this relational database that will hold the class schedules for every student in the university?

Thanks.

That's why (mis)quoted it, to be unhelpful ;) . Though there is irony in writing a song titled "isn't it ironic" that fails in every example.
