First my specs:
PIII 600
VIA Apollo Pro 133
386MbsRAM
30Gb WD HD
Geforce II GTS
Soundblaster Live 5.0
Kenwood 72x
Phillips 8x4x32 CDRW
Yesterday I upped my FSB speed to 133 by moving the corresponding jumper on the mobo. Anyways after that ony the stick of 128Mbs of RAM would be detected. So I switched it back and a lot of stuff happened and I couldn't get the thing to boot. So anyways I reset the CMOS and now I'm up and running windows again, however still with only 128 MBs of RAM, I can't get my computer to detect the stick of 256. The combinations of RAM I've tried and the corresponding results are:
-128 in slot 0, 256 in slot 2 - Long beeps sometimes, sometimes it boots up fine and detects only the 128.
-128 in 0, 256 not in - Works fine all the time
-256 in 0 (128 not in) - Computer doesn't boot
-256 in 2 (128 not in) - Long beeps
-128 in 2 (256 not in) - Nothing
As you can see I havn't mentioned slot 1, that's because ever since I've had this thing built (about a year and a half ago) I've never been able to fit RAM into the DIMM slot 1. I never actually tried it until I bought the stick of 256 about 4 months ago, but I can't get any stick in slot 1 unless I apply a lot more force then I'm comfortable doing...and I don't want to try that until someone just tells me to. So if you have any thoughts on that, thatd be a help. But the main problem is I can't get more than 128Mbs of RAM to be detected. I did move the RAM around a good bit yesterday so its possible that I might of damaged the stick of 256 (I handled it carefully but I guess you never know), but its not possible that its just a bad stick because it was working fine up until yesterday. And as I mentioned when the stick of 128 is in slot 2 it doesn't boot up and I know for a fact that stick of RAM is fine since it works in slot 0.
Also, since then I havn't been able to get any sound. I've reseated my sound card and still can't get anything. It is hooked in right. I was wondering if perhaps there is something in the BIOS that contributes to the sound...like I said I cleared the CMOS and since I don't really know exactly what I'm doing, I just reset the BIOS settings like the date, processor speed, and let it auto detect all my slaves and masters and what not. Any ideas? Suggestions? Remember I'm not nearly on the same level of knowledge as most of you so the simpler the better. Thanks.
