Help a Noob in buying RAMS

Hi guys i need a simple answert if possible
i Have currently 2 256 MB DDR (Kingston,333 Mhz) in my Mobo, that has 3 slots ugradable to 3 GB
and i wanna buy some RAMs so what do u think should i get? will it e a problem if i got 512 DDR instead of 256 DDR ? i'm askinf this coz a friend of mine told me it would be better if i got the same sticks in all the slots. thanx a Lot

512 MB should be find alongside your 256 MB although some motherboards would like the larger RAM in the first slot. Most don't care. I'd recommend Crucial Memory for a first time buyer. Their memory configurator/recommender/thingy works well at listing what will work for your system and/or motherboard. I've never had any problem with their RAM. (Other brands may overclock better, but I'm guessing that's not a priority for you.)

I would get 2x256 in dual channel, and the other 512 working on it's own thing. or maybe it's a dual channel between 2x512's? .. hmm...
