checked for other threads about this and couldn't find one...

I want to know the good way to cool my soon to be system.

1.0ghz tbird that I hope to OC @ 1.2ghz (9x133)
I will be using a KT133a mobo (probably the Abit K7Ta)
with Infineon cas2 pc133 sdram

and I am not sure wich HS/F to go with, and if I will need extra fans or what not..
So far I've heard the Alphas are very good, also the super orbs..but I really don't know what will be necessary for my setup to be cool enough.

any advice info would be much appreciated :)

i would say an alpha HSF would suite your needs nicely. depending on which fan you get for it you can go massive cooling w/ a louder more powerful fan (ie. the delta) or you can snag a quieter fan (ie. the adda) which won't provide as much cooling but is as silent as you can get. you can grab a taisol HSF however with your ambitions of a 20% jump using a tbird, you're going to need more cooling then the taisol might offer. it's an awesome heatsink, but keep in mind it's also for acoustic-minding overclockers. i personally wouldn't go with an orb- but that's just my opinion. i know many that would swear by it.

make sure you have a good case temp, provide good intake and exhaust and i'm sure you'll be fine. although i haven't heard of a large margin of people hitting 1.2ghz, just make sure you remember the first rule of overclocking- don't expect anything or you'll be dissapointed =) be prepared to be satisfied with 1.1 and jump for joy if you hit that 1.2 ;)

Just running the CPU @ 1gig with a 133 bus would give you a pretty nice performance boost :)
An alpha pal6035, superorb, fop32-1/fop38 would be what you need.
Is noise a concern?

Thank you both for the info :)

noise is not a concern, I always have headphones on ;)

viperoni: would that be all 3 or just one of those components?

if noise isn't a concern you can get some higher end fans like the delta which drives any normal person mad after a while =)

you can only install one HSF, so you're going to have to pick which is better for your needs. check this article here for a wrap-up of HSFs you may want to look into.

the alphas, orbs, and globalwins are the top performing ones right now. the taisols don't have as much power but are a lot quieter which is why they're such a favorite. for sheer power look into the higher ones recently mentioned

Awesome, thanks for the link :)

I'm leading more towards the FOP32-1 now, and if I can found a TaiSol i'd go with that...seems the Deltas are more like jet engines so :)

Would I need extra fans in the case?

An alpha pal6035 w/ YS Tech 27cfm would be good, or a Fop32-1 would be good too (same fan)
A fan sucking air into the case in the bottom front, and a fan blowing air out the back somewhere will help you quite a bit.

Zeroburn,

Even the cheapy taisol(CEK733092 the $11 one) outperforms the super-orb and chrome orb

Orbs verus Other Heatsinks: Diode versus Socket-thermistor testing

So not only are they fairly quiet, they are good performers.

VM,

Your top heatsinks right now are Alpha's, Taisol CGK742, FOp32s and 38s, and the Hedgehogs(not in that order). If cost is an issue, get the $11 taisol. The Super-orb will be adequate, but at 1.2ghz you're borderline CPU temp limit(and you can get a better heatsink). Definately stay away from the Chrome-Orb(it will not be adequate).

I took a few pics of my case, I wonder if those two places would be good for those two extra fans viperoni is talking about..and If i'd need to cut holes or something :)

Front case
Back

Thanks guys :)

In the front, simply throw a 80mm fan in the there (cutting holes would be too much trouble, I know, I had the same case :D)
The back is much more troublesome....
I just popped in a slot cooler (under video card) and cut 2 holes for 60mm fans above the video card.
Wasn't the greatest (or easiest), but it worked.
Your back fan mounting options are very limited.
