I'm shopping for a router. All I've ever had is cheapie G routers, and they've been fine for me. But it's been a while and I'm seeing a lot has changed. The main feature I need is good range for where I'm using this next router.

I keep seeing:

DDWRT and Tomato. Should I care?
How about dual-band. I don't get it.

I'm not sure I even need and n router. I notice some folks are still recommending g routers.

Any router recommendations or advice.

Thanks in advance.

i'd rather have 3 hardwired AP's strung across the house to get full coverage than 1 unit that has to work real hard (and thus slow down everyone).

The Router with its High Power output is Good as is.

If the features that you need are available in Tomato Flash with Tomato.

Tomato features - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomato_(firmware)#Features

Otherwise, use DD-WRT - http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/What_is_DD-WRT%3F#Features

It is much easier to Flash Tomato than DD-WRT, thus to avoid frustration and Bricking risk I would recommend to casual “Flashers” to go with Tomato.
