What I hope to do:
Have one folder on each computer that is accessible by the other computer, for the purpose of sharing files, using the TCP/IP protocol.
Here is my setup as it is:
- Athlon XP system using WinXP Pro with an on-board LAN (ECS K7S5A) --> connected to SMC Barricade 7004ABR with Zone Alarm as a software firewall
- PIII system using Win98 First Edition with an SMC NIC (Realtek drivers) --> connected to SMC Barricade 7004ABR with Zone Alarm as a software firewall
- SMC Barricade 7004ABR is a broadband router with switching capabilities.
What I have done so far:
- Both computers have been set up on the same workgroup "Home"
- Each computer has a different name "Athlon" and "PIII"
........On the winXP Pro:
- Made sure the TCP/IP protocol is installed (already was for obvious reasons)
- Created a user ID for "John", logged onto MS Networking client
- Created a folder for sharing, called it sharedXP, set up sharing so that "Everyone" group has read/write/view directory access
........On the win98:
- Made sure the TCP/IP protocol is installed (already was for obvious reasons)
- Set log on to MS Networking client
- Checked the "File and printer sharing" box
- Created folder for sharing, "sharedP3"
- Rebooted, logged on as "John"
The computers still don't see each other and I don't know why
. Any ideas what it could be? Zone Alarm Personal has not been modified and I have changed nothing to the broadband router configuration.
Can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to correct it?
As usual any help is greatly appreciated
-Ice
