Help a guy get free internet.

I am at an apartment in a new city, but I'll only be here another couple months. I've looked into getting internet access installed, but there are no options available as my complex has labeled themselves as the sole provider for the complex and wont allow a contract for less than a year. At around 50 dollars a month....

The complex does have a wireless network available for free access at the clubhouse, but I am not very close and cant receive it currently.

I did a google trying to look for information on how I can receive signal from a distance and have come across these home-made antennas. It sounds like a cool project, but I am not sure if it would work in this case as it seems like these antennas are built to be part of a two-way system with an antenna at either end.

What would be the best way to extend the range of my system? I have a wireless access point I can use.

Thanks for the help.

it may not be much of a problem if you spend some time building what you need.

with enough cord you could place the antenna close enough to get a signal, especially if you have a 300mw wifi card.

the main problem is, how much cord will be needed, and how will you conceal it, or secure it to objects, and the antenna, will it be in a 'danger' zone? can you conceal it well?

I've tried a satellite dish before, too, but the tin can happened to work better.

It will work if you also boost the transmit power of your station. The low gain antenna on the other end will recieve your (boosted) signal but will still emmit a low power signal itself - that's where the cantenna comes in.
