This may be a stupid question, but I'm clueless, so I'm asking it anyway.

I've currently got Comcast HSI running to a SB5100 cable modem which is connected to my PC with an ethernet cable. Everything's working fine.

However, fairly soon I'm going to need that cable for a SAT TV connection. So what I'm thinking of doing is putting the cable modem out in the garage (where the cable comes in at) and connect some sort of wireless device to it (router?). Then access that with some sort of wireless device on my PC. Can I do that though? Just have the modem and router out in the garage without being wired to any PC? And will the extreme temps effect them at all? If I can do that will any sort of wireless router work?

Really, I'm just trying to avoid drilling another hole in my house to run another cable in. And as you can probably tell, I never done anything wireless before....

Yes you can.

But you have to be prepared with a plan to be able to move your computer to the garage and connect with a wire to the Router in cases that the Wireless does not work and you need to "fix" the troubles.

Cool. I am fairly close to the garage and should be able to reach it with a 75ft or so Cat-5 cable. So I could just do that if I ever needed a wired connection.
