I just find them to be a means of stress relief. I used to get a bit stressed out at games, but I realized that, since I was using them for stress relief, they shouldn't cause stress. For example, when I played Gears of War, I spent over 2 hours on the final level, trying to kill RAAM. After awhile, I was starting to get frustrated, after trying numerous strategies (I'd blow the Kryll away from him, and hit him with something like 250 headshots with a machine gun, or 20 headshots with a sniper rifle, all to no effect), I decided to just call it quits.
It was a roommate's game, and I'm not living with him anymore, so no more access to the game, and thus no further attempts. And I found that aiming with a joystick just really sucked. I prefer a mouse's pixel-perfect accuracy.
