Ok....I'm lookin at some big screens for my apartment. I want the 50" Sony Grand Wega but its hard to justify the cost. I'm also looking at the 51" Sony XBR and the 42" Pansonic plasma. The Pansonic costs about the same as the Grand Wega, but it doesn't support higher than 480p, which is a huge disadvatage. The Grand Wega looks better than all of them....but my manager today told me also that the XBR has a problem with burn in, especially if I play alot of games on it, is this true? The Grand Wega does't have that problem due to the LCD technology...I'm discounting DLP because from what I've heard they are awful with analog signals, and not everything is digital yet. Any advice?

My price:
Grand Wega + Stand: $2800
XBR: $1350
Plasma: $2900

Plasma is too new for me right now. I'd be afraid to game for any length of time on them, just because the number of plasma displays out there is few enough I question how many gamers are using them as their primary display (ie: there may be a distorted view of burn in)

I've heard several people say "burn in" on projection TV's is a myth. I tend to not believe that, because any game I have has a warning about possible damage to projection TV's.

Check out hometheaterforum.com for some better opinions then here.

dude, you work at CC, go with the 40 XBR...i think cost is around $1500, stand is $2.

$1350 is not cost on the 51"
you wont get "burn in" on the XBRs

Stay away from LCD RP TVs and plasmas. The black levels are horrible and will look light gray in a dark room. Sure, they look great on a bright showroom floor, but they'll look washed out when you get them home.

If you want a non-CRT bigscreen, go for the Samsung DLP.

stay away from plasma unless u can get once for around 50 inches even then its still too new to make that big of a purchase in...plus if size isnt an issue i think that RPTVs look better anyway

HITATCHI ALL DA WAY

I just checked it today. Pretty sure it was that, or something around it, because the 51" with 4 years service was like 1580.

The DLP does look good with the HD signal at circuit city, but does it really suck that much with analog like I've been hearing?

As for burn-in, the biggest thing I'm worried about is when i'm uising 4:3 aspect. I hate distortion so I wouldn't be stretching it, so I'd have the vertical bars, wouldn't those burn in?

my hitatchi has grey bars to not have distortion...i had your opinions at first but i got used to stretched out view and it doesnt look bad at all once u get used to it...or use 4:3 expanded just cuts off a little bottom and top nothing noticable

i feel like why get the big tv if ur just gunna watch it with the bars? mite as well go with a cheaper non-HD 4:3 tv
