HELP! 90+ GB of data corrupt!!!

So the files on one of my hard drives keeps getting corrupted, but I don't know how to stop it. Any suggestions? Last night I lost everthing on that drive. When I try to run the videos, Media Player says they're corrupt. I don't know how to stop it. Could it be a problem with the drive?
 
I had a similar problem in was my memory. Download memrest86+ at (www.memtest.org).

Also go to your Hard Drives manufacturer website and download the Diagnostic software and check your hard drive.
 
Definately download www.memtest.org and make the bootable floppy.

Another reason the floppy lives. Yes, I know some can do it with a memory card, but the floppy is easy.

I've had a P4 3.4c machine running since April of this year with no problems. Then last week I run memtest on it for the first time and one module fails. Got an RMA from Corsair and it's going back today.
 
Are the files mostly media or are there some files that cannot run at all if corrupt like executable? Media files can be repaired usually and different codecs may help to. You should try VideoLAN and if it can play the files. Also check your IDE (assuming) cables, chipset and CPU temp and make sure you have a recent chipset drivers and a recent BIOS. And finally you may want to consider getting quality PSU if you don't already have one. I have seen this affect primarily media files on certain drives and sometimes optical drives as well.

Also, have you tried running a surface test on the drive?
 
Get R-Studio data recovery software. That program RECOVERED 95% of my data when my 320GB RAID went corrupt! It's a GODSEND!

I'll second R-studio. It's not really "professional grade," but then, for what it costs, it is quite excellent. I repartitioned, formatted, and installed Windows on my dad's hard drive. Turned out then that I hadn't backed up some files that were in the Documents and Settings folder. (Yeah, in addition to stashing files in Program Files AND Windows, now there's another folder for user data.) R-studio didn't get all of them, but it did get a few important tax files that were there. It could see the filenames of all of them, but the data from some just couldn't be recovered. It's kind of scary to see just how much is still there on an "empty" hard drive, thus the need for really thorough data wipers.
It also helped recover data from a few dying hard drives I've had, as well as some deleted files from healthy hard drives.
 
What is "professional grade" then? R-Studio works better than the most expensive data recovery software out(easy recovery). I have easy recovery, and it just crashes upon scanning my RAID array. Then I tried R-Studio, and it worked like magic!
 
R-Studio still costs money, try PC Inspector File Recovery, it's freeware. If your data is truly corrupted (and just not accessable by the drive) then data recovery tools won't do you much good. These tools are good for getting data off a HD that has a messed up partition table or something like that and can't be accessed normally
 
run something like speedfan to see the SMARt condition stats for ur drive. if its going corrupt it should be indicated as less then healthy. the hd companies also have software to check hds.

and yes thats what dvdr is for. just a little over 20 discs coulda backed up all your stuff. or 128cdr if u feel insane.
 
Well, logic suggests that data recovery of corrupt files is pointless until you find the source of the corruption. I would run Memtest86 overnight, all tests enabled. A bad stick of RAM will can strip the paint of your house and give your family a permanent orange afro. If the RAM checks out, run Prime95 to stress the CPU/Ram/Mobo combination. That's where I would start.
 
If you're overclocking, stop.
Test the memory.
Run chkdsk.
Check your cooling solutions (although they're probably fine).
Switch out cables, a bad IDE cable can screw up everything.
Restore from backups. 😉
