I've just added a XFX geforce 8800gt to my computer.
Games that played OK on my old graphics card now are unplayable on my new one.

About every ten seconds or so the screen freezes and drops to about half a frame a second and eventually frees back up and looks and plays superbly for another ten seconds until it does it again. Not good.

It's not overclocked. If I quit out of the game to check the temperature of the card it is only about 65c, so not overheating. (Using rivatuner to moniter the temps) and I've tried it with the gpu fan turned up to 50 percent.

The rest of my system is:

asus m2n-x motherboard
amd 6000+ cpu
2 gig corsair ram
hiper 630 psu
maxtor sata2 hard drive.

I've just added the power supply as I wondered if my old one might have been underpowered but the results are the same.

Any advice or pointers towards relevant threads would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums!

So what did you have before the 8800GT? And how did you go about installing the new 8800GT?

Thanks

Before the 8800gt I had a 6600LE.

I uninstalled the old drivers before installing the new card. Then installed 169.21 drivers. Then the 174.74 beta drivers.
Since then I've formatted my C: drive and started with a fresh install of XP sp2.
Any other information I can give you to help narrow this down?

also..
its an nforce motherboard, not a via chipset, so nothing to do with the pci-e 1 incompatability problem with pci-e 2 cards.
