HELP 850XT or 6800GT?

Which video card should I get for new DFI sli board?

850XT? $535

6800GT? $454

I will be overclcoking both with waterblock.

Which has most potential? best bang for buck?

well, if I was buying an SLI capable MB, I would probably buy the 6800gt. One day they may figure it out and then you have an upgrade path.

I'd go with the X850XT, but as stated above, if you plan on using SLi, or want a better upgrade path, 6800GT might be better.

It's also a good price/performance, but I haven't used an X850 and I'd like to 🙂

If you plan to SLI in the future, the 6800GT all the way. If you are most likely not going that way then the XT. Of course, ATI may one day announce their SLI implementation so then you would have to upgrade again at that time and maybe change motherboards to an ATI SLI chipset as they would more compatible.

Otherwise I would make my decision more based upon what games you will be playing and how much performance you need to be playable at the settings you want. Both cards are great, there is no doubt about that, but imo the gt is only a good idea if you are going SLI or running Doom3 a lot. And this is coming from a guy who has only owned nVidia cards.

Both 🙂 and then switch around between graphics slots as soon as you get bored with one card 🙂 taataaaa

Otherwise...kind of the same question here...i will wait the next days because the X850s non PEs (Sapphire) just started popping up....so there might be price movements etc...who knows

SLI is not an option..i am retarded enough to spend ~~$500 on ONE card..and certainly will not buy TWO.

I'd say, in general, X850XT better single card. better performance with aniso and antialiasing, less reported issues (texture shimmering etc.)

Option2:

Lock myself in basement and come out when R520 is released...saves me the hassle. I guess market price will be $9 bio and it will be avavilable some day "in the future". (Anywhere between May 2005 and June 2065)

why would you get an x850XT with an SLi board 😕?
if you can get ahold of an x850XT get it (espically for $535), but don't get the SLi version of the DFI get the NF4 Ultra (which can be modded to an SLI chipset with a pencil). they are the same exact board u can read the anandtech article about them.

Why get that board? cuz it rocks the house!!! best mobo ever made.

But I'm not buying for sli ATM anyway...I think SLI is a gimmick for most part... it's only good in 11 games and may get trumped next gen...i'd feel like a real idiot dropping a grand when I could wait 4-5 months for better...right?

LOL😀
You got news on this flex? Links? anything from the down low?

Right now I'm leaning twards GT (waiting like most say, couple-three weeks)
But then since 850XT is $100 more than 68GT = 20% more money... will XT perform 20% better if both OC?
I hav'nt studied OC potentials too well...have you?

dude zebo the DFI NF4 SLI is the exact_same_thing (http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2337) as the DFI NF4 Ultra. Same bios, same 2x x16 PCIe slots, everything. the only difference is is that if you ever want to use SLI you have to mod the chipset (http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2322) with a pencil. that pencilmod saves you $$$.
heres a link about the x850XT PE: http://guru3d.com/article/Videocards/176/
they got the core from 540MHz to 565HMz and the memory from 587MHz to 610MHz , but the regular XT should have more headroom. and seriously read all of those links, they are exactly what you should be looking at.

It's not the same. Check the goodies.

The board is the same except it is based on the Ultra chipset instead of SLI and the Ultra-D does not have the additional 4 SATA ports provided by the Silicon Image 3114. You still get the UV cables, and even the same Karajan Audio Module. The missing accessories are the system carrier, Front-X (which will be very important to some) and cable sheathing. If performance is what matters to you, then you can choose any of the new DFI nForce4 boards and then decide what additional features and accessories matter to you.
thats the last time i _ever_ try and correct a member with over 10,000 posts. i apoligize 😉
but really, like you NEED those extra 4 SATA ports, 'cmon.

I think it's price to performance sucks. It's $740 vs only $540 for XT whch operates the same, since I'll be pitting a waterblock and OCing anyway..I don't need higher end card..I'll get there anyway..

i know, i wasnt suggesting you get the PE at all...its a 100% waste of money. it just gives you an idea of how high you can clock your XT because they are the same chip; and also the performance you can expect compared to the 6800GT (they didnt benchmark it against an ultra 😕 )

EDIT: based on 3DMark05 scores, the x850XT PE is about 27% faster then the 6800GT. (probably wrong, its late and i suck at math)
It just TOTALLY owns farcry, look at the 4x/8x results...it's faster then a 6800GT with no aa/af at 10x7!
