HELP!! 80's TV dramedy

It was a police detective w/ a really big gun.. a satire of like Magnum PI type shows. Was a comedy but no audience. The last episode he had to defuse a bomb and it exploded and the episode ended.

What was the name of the show? AND WHAT HAPPENED AFTER? My network would then restart the series the following day/week. I think maybe that was the season finale and it didn't get picked up the following season..

Ohhh. Yeah, wondered what that show was about ever since I saw the "Sledgehammer" section on Suprnova.

Sledge Hammer, David Rasche, IMDB and Google would have more. Sort of a weak imitation of Police Squad! (which became the Naked Gun movies) IIRC.
