USING 775 P5AD2 AND 3.4 775 CPU + RETAIL INTEL HEATSINK FAN PROBLEM

I just pushed in the press pins and turned the tops clockwise to lock in.

I noticed that the mobo is "warped" by the pressure of the pins locked in place.

Question

What is the right way to install this damned retail intel heatsink on the 775 cpu?

(I hate this blasted heatsink is there a better one out there?)

Should the pins be pushed all the way down and the tops turned clockwise to lock in or just part the way?

Any pics on how this should be done?

The intel instructions are crap!!

Thanks

Are you using the correct size "Brass Standoffs" under your mobo? Sometimes people overlook that.

Measure the height of one of your standoffs in the installed ( screwed down ) position. Dont measure the threads. Then measure the pins that hole your heatsink in place. If there is a difference, there is your warping.

It shouldn't be bowed that bad. ThemalTake has some good tower heatsinks that use brackets to mount. THey dont cause any bowing that I've noticed. But MSI's site has some very good instruction on how to install the intel cooler.

The thermaltake towers reduced my cpu temps considerably,Ihave a 2.8 @3.4 Lga775.My max temps are around 45-50 at full load....30c at idle🙂 Not exactly the flamethrowers everyone claims with a good cooling solution😉

removed mobo from case, and attempted to install retail heatsink again - same problem!

When pins pushed all way down, mobo bends!

appreciate any ideas?

It doesn't matter if the board bows a little bit. It is a very tight fit, and supposed to be that way.

Just assemble it and enjoy. 🙂
