HELP! 52x Lite on burner not working.

I just put together a P4 rig on an asus p4p800 deluxe. Windows xp pro sees the drive and recognizes it as a liteon 52x. Whenever i try to open anything with it, it doesn't register as having a cd inside. It never worked, brand new from newegg. Am I doing something wrong or is it DOA?
The drive is secondary master alone on the channel. HELP!

Are both the jumper and drive cable position master? Is DMA on? How about opening Nero and diagnosing the burner?

jumper, yes. The last cable position is master correct? DMA is on auto in the bios. This nero diagnose sounds promising, let me try that real quick.

hmm, when I got my liteon burner the jumper was set to slave.
have you double checked that the jumper is set to master?
