a gtx460 is the better card. perhaps you should list all your computer specs first though. also the res you play at is pretty important.

GTX 460 wins by OC... power consumption, DX11.. matches the 5850 when OC'ed, truly the winner!

Although I do wonder what happens when you play a game that uses more than 768 mb of VRAM but still less than 1 GB. I would think they start evening out quite a bit and maybe the 4890 could pull ahead.

I think this only happens when you play on high resolutions like 1920x1080 then you have AA on...

How much cheaper is the 4890?

I picked one up on CL for a nephew for 70 bucks...

I think the 1024MB GTX 460 is the better buy. You get better memory bandwidth via the 256 bit bus versus the 192 bit bus of the 768MB version. Also, you get 32 ROPS for the 1024MB version versus a measly 24 ROPS on the 768MB version. All this for $30-$50 more. A nobrainer IMHO.

Go to your User CP and make it ur signature.

And all things being equal the 460 is still the better card.

At that res the 460 is def the better buy, you won't be memory limited anyway and it will enable you to max out any game at 1280x1024. I would consider a cpu upgrade though for some games, specifically BC2, since you will be CPU limited there, but all things considered you should run any game out no problem

I wouldn't consider a 4890 over a 460 for the same reason I wouldn't consider a 260 over a 5770. Why on earth buy outdated computer hardware? You're already half way to obsolescence when you first get it. While I don't think the 460 is the best card out there, between those 2 cards, get a 460.
