HELP 24pin psu cable wire cut/broken

Just bought a NZXT Hale82 750w psu today and when I opened it I noticed there is a yellow wire that is loose on the 24pin cable. However, there aren't any missing wires when I compare it to my old psu... any idea what this is/if its important? I tried the psu in a old pc and it worked fine..

Thanks

As shown in the diagram on this page, the standard ATX 24 pin connector specifies only 2 yellow 12 volt lines so it may mean nothing. However, I would consider the fact that it's just dangling there to be sloppy workmanship.

If you bought it at a regular brick & mortor store, I'd suggest going back to exchange it or at least, to look at another example from the same manufacturer to see if they're all that way. If you bought it from an online store, call their customer service people to ask about it. They should exchange it at no cost, including no charge for shipping.

You might also contact the manufacturer's customer support to ask about it. In any case, I'd check with some reliable source before trying to use a piece that shows evidence of something that weird.

Because I design electronic gear, I'd consider it unacceptable, even if that's the way they make all of them.

Hope that helps. 🙂

Cut it off when it's not powered, put a piece of electrical tape on the end of it, or some superglue, call it good and put it in. If it works, don't even bother with sending it back. That's what I'd do at least.

Screw that...this is a sign of shoddy workmanship...which is surprising because the NZXT HALE units are very highly rated.

I'd definitely be contacting the seller/manufacturer for replacement...at their expense.
