NETGEAR and Atheros to Deliver Dual-Band Tri-Mode 802.11a/b/g Wireless Networking Solutions
NETGEAR to Use Atheros? Award-Winning AR5001X Combo WLAN Chipset in Wireless Products Designed to Provide Universal Compatibility at the Highest Speeds
SANTA CLARA, Calif. ? February 25, 2003 ? NETGEAR, Inc., a worldwide provider of easy-to-use, high performance networking products, today announced a collaboration with Atheros Communications in which NETGEAR will integrate Atheros? award-winning 802.11a/b/g WLAN chipset into its next-generation wireless networking products. NETGEAR?s new 802.11a/b/g Dual-Band Tri-Mode product line is designed to provide business-class wireless users universal compatibility at the highest speeds.
Based on this technology, NETGEAR is scheduled to ship in March 2003 the NETGEAR Dual-Band 802.11a/g PC Card, providing wireless users universal compatibility with all of the currently deployed IEEE standard WLAN protocols at the fastest possible wireless speeds. NETGEAR will soon follow with the NETGEAR Dual-Band 802.11a/g Access Point and the NETGEAR Dual-Band 802.11a/g Router. All the products are designed to work in a tri-mode environment. With the recent IEEE approval of draft 6.1 of the .11g standard, NETGEAR is prepared to make its 802.11a/b/g products available and anticipates easy compliance to the final specification expected to be ratified by IEEE in the coming months.
NETGEAR and Atheros first began working together with the introduction of NETGEAR?s line of 802.11a products for business-class wireless networking based on the Atheros AR5000 chipset. The collaboration between the two companies continued with the shipment of the first 802.11a/b Dual Band PC Card, and now extends to 802.11a/b/g. The numerous awards and accolades for performance received against higher-priced, enterprise-focused competitors confirms the technology leadership NETGEAR and Atheros have forged to deliver business-class wireless networking solutions.
