Hi everyone, i am new to these forums. I was just wondering whether i should get the Maxtor Maxline III 300gb, or if i should get a 74gb raptor + another 100Gb (or so, maybe 120) HDD (if so, which :D )?

Thanks alot. Here is the rest of my system if it helps (besides the OCZ enhanced bandwidth pc3700 512x2 RAM, its not there right now):

Well people have told me this is just as fast as the raptor, cheaper per GB, and larger...so...

the Maxtor Maxline III 300gb, or if i should get a 74gb raptor

you know what you are about to start right :)

anyways i asked this vary same comaprison in the "hot deals" section. Anyways I ultimately chose the Raptor over the MAxtor (Diamond 10: 16mb cache, 7200 rpm, 300 GB ~$.80/GB) simply i can get it for $171 (outpost), has a long-warranty (five years) and aside from the 8 cache and TCQ (why o why did WD choose that i dont know). its very fast and still will be imo around "middle of the pack" even after five years. Size is a bit smaller but nothing beats running your OS from an enterprise-class HDD. I can always pickup a larger "games/media" HDD later, as i dont keep more than about 3-4 games at any one time. So in sum for me speed and waranty is where its at. More room can always be purchased later for games and what not, as its needed.

Yeah, i guess it is the fastest, and should be the fastest for a while. Do you know if the raptor is really loud?

Also, can you like, reccomend one other HDD besides the raptor (around 100gb, preferably not lower than 100) thats SATA and pretty fast? Thanks alot buddy, like the breakdown!

Storage Review article on 74GB raptor

Storage review has some good aricles there on various drives. the Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 looks like a good buy 250GB (its really a IBM drive now that Hitachi has taken over, but a good drive nonetheless) good performance, at around $170 . The new DiamondMax drives can be had for $250 16mb cache and fast (good match for a raptor) good for a "games/media" drive (as i would perfer a enterprise-class HDD for my system drive).
