sooo its almost a week since I've landed here, so far what I find interesting about the city are:
1. It is very modern. I might be biased since I currently reside in a good district (the xujiahui district)
2. There are lots and lots of people. God I made the mistake of taking the subway during rush hour (5:30 pm). People were literally trying to squeeze inside the subway. You think its already full? Noooo, the subway guards actually PUSH people from the outside to make more room!
3. Things here are generally cheaper compared to in the states. A nice 2 bedroom apartment (in an upscale neighborhood) can be had for $600-$700 US per month.
4. People here are generally rude. They don't queue up, and they have no manners. I was eating at kfc today, and even before I leave my table some old lady sat down in front of me to reserve the table!! WTF?!?!?
5. Chinese girls here are hawttt (I am Chinese so I might be biased).. I will take pictures when I bring my camera out :D:D
6. The nightlife here is amazing... so many bars and places to go to..

That is it for now.. I will update this thread again in the future

yeah I am staying here for about a year to study mandarin! :)

Sounds neat. I'd love to learn Mandarin. Unfortunately the language terrifies and confuses me. ;)

I'm actually going to Beijing for 4 weeks in April for a medical mission trip through my school. I'll be interested to see how my experience compares to yours since I'm not asian :)

If that happened to me, they'd get a big "you'd better step off ..." from me.

Then you will spent 90% of your time fighting with people. Everyone is rush rush rush over there.

Shanghai is the New York of China, everything is very westernized.

To truly appreciate Chinese culture, you need to get your ass to Beijing or Xian.
