Hellgate: London performs poorly on 8800GT SLI.

My friend is trying to play Hellgate: London on my 8800GT SLI system, but performance is terrible and it keeps locking up (I have a suspicion that, like the 7800GT SLI before it, factory overclocks are to blame). He's playing on a 52" 1080p LCD HDTV, but the frame rate is usually in the single digits no matter what resolution I chose (only 2 16:9 resolutions and 720p is a little chopped off). We also ran it at the 16:10 768p resolution with DX10 smoke effects (I'll be damned if I have to give up DX10 effects on an 8800GT SLI + Quad Core + 4GB 64bit system) and it is still terrible and often locks up.

What sort of DX10 performance should I expect from dual 8800GT cards in SLI on a 4GB Quad-Core system? I have the latest drivers and gaming hotfixes and I just did a fresh installation of Vista Ultimate x64.

The 8800GTs are the smaller fan type (not revised) and I just got them from Best Buy a couple weeks ago (BFG 8800GT OC).

You need to run it in Dx9 mode. Dx10 mode isn't playable on my 8800GT SLI setup, either.

Wow. So what CAN play Crysis and Hellgate well in DX10? Only SLI'd GTX/Ultra setups?!

Everyone billed these as the first affordable cards that can actually pull off decent performance in DX10. I'm sorely disappointed. :(

Hellgate has problems ... the patch did not do what the devs claimed for DX10.
It is *playable* on my 2900xt in DX10 but looks better in maxed out DX9 :p

Crysis is going to need next gen HW ... and i am not so sure either of these games are yet optimized for SLI
