I agree 100% with that part of his speech (showing that even a broken clock like Bloomberg can be right twice a day), but then he had to throw in other garbage attacking gun rights etc, reverting back to the idiocy he's known for.

There is no doubt that political correctness is the current day equivalent of the red scare of the 50's. Saying something the left doesn't approve of -- even in private -- can cost you your job, your career etc in a heartbeat. Only politically correct views approved by the left are allowed.

I'm fairly confident that if you gather a large enough group of like-minded individuals, they all turn into assholes, regardless of what their beliefs are. It's the echo chamber mentality. As soon as you're exposed to nothing but your own views in the absence of dissenting opinions, people tend to turn into assholes. "Everybody thinks exactly the same as me, I better loudly decry anyone who dares disagree with what we all know to be true!" It's been happening at liberal universities forever, but that's hardly the only place people are guilty of trying to stifle free expression. Kudos to Bloomberg for acknowledging and decrying it.

It's called groupthink...and this mentality is rampant in this forum.

Orwell satirically referred to it as newspeak.

The Goering principle, works every time. You can even get people to rally around something they disagree with by declaring the other side the enemy.

It's fairly obvious on this very forum from time to time when Dems argue something that anyone in their right mind would disagree with just because a Dem said it or the other way around, people stick with their party and give up their own freedom to think without a second question on the matter.

I can pretty much promise you that if you were to do an experiment on this forum and post a fake article that goes directly opposite to the Republican viewpoint and presented it as something that all republicans agree with you would get close to every republican on here to agree with it, same the other way around.

Me? I lead, i don't follow.

I just see one rich and powerful asshole admonishing the peasants for getting too uppity with other rich and powerful assholes. Bloomberg is a piece of shit before, during, and after this speech.
"In each case, liberals silenced a voice -- and denied an honorary degree -- to individuals they deemed politically objectionable. This is an outrage," Bloomberg said to applause.
Oh cry me a fucking river, it's an insult to all the graduates who go up to their eyeballs in debt for their degree for colleges to go handing these out to anyone anyway.

Honorary degrees, to my knowledge, don't me a fucking thing anyway. Getting an honorary law degree isn't going to qualify me to be a lawyer.
