Hell and More Hell with Shipped Monitors

I think I am cursed with shipped monitors. I am now on my 12th defective monitor. It doesn't seem to matter what brand or what they cost, everyone has turned out to be messed up in some way or another, with a total of 3 refused outright at the door.

The nightmare started late last fall with a 19" toshiba CRT. Bad misconvergence and vertical lines and discoloration on right side of screen. OK, that went back. Then it was a 19" Sony G400, again bad misconvergence and focusing problems which was immediately replaced by another G400 which suffered focusing problems and ghosting. That was it for Sony. I decided to get a TOP of the line 19"er, an EIZO T761 at almost 700.00. Wouldn't you know it, bad focusing on left side and right sides with poor contrast. Ok, they sent me another one but it was refused as when it arrived, the box looked it had gone through WWII.

I was really upset at this point, but now I said enough is enough. I settled for a cheaper 17"er. The Trintron KDS model. What a POS, poor geometry and weird odors and bussing noises....G'bye KDS.

At this point, reliable old Samsung entered the picture with a new 700NF. Blah, it was terrible.....bad geometry and blurry. Next was a Samsung 700IFT. It had terrible contrast, geometry problems and poor focusing in corners with faded colors. Next was a Samsung 755DF. Bad noises and snappiong sounds from back of monitor with an ozone smell told all I needed to know - send this sucker back. Another 755DF ordered in May. Well..............except for some slight misconvergence toward bottom of screen in DOS and a little geometry problem, I thought I could live with it as it wasn't an expensive monitor. Well after 5 weeks, the monitor started to ficker and flash on left side and jitter on the whole screen. It comes and goes at 75Hz. At 85 Hz refresh the monitor now blurs somewhat at 1024x768 and even flickers and jitters to a lesser degree.

At this point I was fuming and totally disgusted. I called SAMSUNG and they told they would send a courier with a refurb unit. Well that refurb unit arrived today driven by some geezer in an old beat up minivan. The monitor was on the back floor not even in a box and on it's side with the screen against the seat. I looked at it. The screen was flithy and scratched......I told the driver....."no way am I accepting this POS"......

Called Samsung and had along talk with tech/customer support.. Seems all refurbs are sent regardless if you have your monitor 1 month or under 3 yr warranty. They told me they were being shipped from near GIANTS stadium. From what info I got,it's pretty much a crapshot as to whether you get a good one or not depending on the condition of the defective unit some other buyer returns and if it's carefully checked out and depending on stock in at time. This sucks.........I want a NEW 755DF in perfect condition, not some beat-up refurbed POS. NO more Samsung and no more mail-orders for monitors.............

dont buy online monitors, carry yourself down to your local B&M and buy one you can walk away with that day..

Wow! After the first few bad episodes, wouldn'tcha think to just go to the store and pick one up??? The shipping costs alone associated with all that would have warranted paying the premium at a store.

CRT's are delicate devices man.....specially comp monitors.....Also...did you check if you maybe had a radioactive warhead next to your monitor??? Hehe just a thought.

That's probably one of the reasons why I stuck with KDS. Their main distribution facility (for North America) is based in Garden Grove, CA. close to Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland.

My AV7-T went bad 5 mos. ago, so I RMA'd it. Requested walk-in RMA (w/c was accepted), dropped the defective monitor off during my lunch break, picked up the replacement, had lunch, and was back at work after the break. I have 2 hour lunch breaks, so it wasn't too bad 😉.

I'd would never purchase a monitor online; too many variables/opportunities/reasons for a monitor to go DOA. Some components are good to purchase online, others aren't. Monitors (IMO) fall into the aren't category.

I just got my Sony G520 from Mwave.com and the box was smashed but luckily the monitor was OK. I was really nervous about it.
