I'm having a devil of a time locating a leak in my water supply pipes. I'm considering calling in a helium leak detection test.

Before I do that, I wanted to check in and find out if anyone here ever got one. How effective is the test? How much did it cost for you, and was it worth it?

Do you live in an area where you may call the city or county to inspect your water supply?

EDIT: Why do you think you have a helium leak? Drink a glass of water and your voice increases in pitch? ;)

Never done it at home, but we use that method to find leaking tubes in steam turbine condensers in power plants. It's the most effective way to find leaking pipes in hard to access places.

Out of curiosity, how effective is it at detecting leaks in pipes that are hidden/sealed behind concrete?
