Just because some other country might violate his rights even further does not excuse our behavior. If we believe he would be murdered there, there are many other steps we could take to still give him due process.

I don't read liberal blogs but I do read this forum which is damn close. We have about 8,000 threads about Sarah Palin & Michelle Bachmann. I haven't seen much of anything about Gitmo lately.

I wasn't intending that to be a justification for any behavior. The article does say some detainees have returned to kuwait and presumably are still alive... but in many cases the returned detainees are tortured or denied entry back into the country and the U.S. doesn't know where to send them. A ticket to the U.S. is out of the question.

First, you certainly didn't hear it mentioned every day or anywhere close to it.

Second, think about why that might be. When Bush was in office you had one of the two political parties pushing the story, constantly making news about it, etc. Now that both parties are implicated in that shit show you have no political actors pushing it. Is it even the least bit surprising that it doesn't make the news now?

I mean, where do people think the political media get their stories from? They are very often fed them by interested actors. No interested actors, way fewer stories.

Typical. It was a major problem when booooosh was in office, an injustice against humanity, a tragedy, a symptom of all that is wrong with the us. Now? Not a peep. But, remember that the media is not biased. Not at all.

Am I the only one that recalls the executive order to close Guantanamo? Am I the only one who remembers that Obama tried to move this from indefinite detentions and military tribunals to federal courts? Am I the only one who remember Congress being the problem and blocking this? There's blame to be had for sure, but Obama actually did try to change this, the blame belongs to Congress.
