To preface, I'll admit I'm an Indiana University alumnus, so I'm somewhat biased. However when you look at these statistics, there is only one logical choice for the 2001 Heisman Trophy:

1) Rushed for more yards (3895) than any other quarterback in NCAA Division I-A history.
2) First player in Division 1-A history to record 2500 total yards in four consecutive seasons
3) First player in Division 1-A history to both pass and run for 40 touchdowns
4) First player in Division 1-A history to pass for 6000 yards and rush for 3000 yards. To put this in perspective, only one other Division 1-A player had ever done 5000/2000, and only 8 other players had hit the 4000/2000 mark.
5) 5th all-time in total yardage in NCAA Division 1-A history.

Granted, IU has had a sh!tty team for the past four years. That's even more of a reason to vote for him. The fact that he was able to reach those numbers in one of the toughest conferences in the country (Big 10) with the lack of support around him (linemen, receivers) speaks for itself. Even Joe Paterno, the winningest coach in Division 1-A history, said Randle El was the greatest athlete he's ever seen.

Sad, sad day. :(

The Heisman is based on single season performance, not career performance. Besides, not winning the Heisman means he'll do better in the NFL.. Look at some of the past Heisman winners.. Ty Detmer, Charlie Ward, Danny Wuerffel, Chris Weinke, Gino Toretta, Andre Ware..

lol, thats the worst generalization i've ever heard of...

besides, there are some very good players in the nfl that won heismans....

Charles Woodson, Eddie George, Desmond Howard, Barry Sanders, Tim Brown, Herchal Walker, Marcus Allen, Tony Dorsett, O.J. Simpson, Roger Staubach, Doak Walker.... to name a few great NFL players... im not an expert on past players, but im sure theres a lot more..

If Randle El didn't get the Heisman, Grossman deserved it. Unfortunately, both players were victims of voters like the fvucking moronic Brent Musburger. Here's an example of his "wisdom":

"My second place vote goes to Fresno State quarterback David Carr. He's the surprise story of the year, the architect of upset victories against Colorado, Oregon State and Wisconsin."

Yeah, and what the hell did Fresno State do the rest of the year??? Hell, even IU beat Wisconsin 63-32! In fact, let's see how the two quarterbacks did against a common opponent:

David Carr: 22/38, 240 yds passing
7 rushes for 2 yds (*impressive*)

Antwaan Randle El: 8/13, 182 yds passing
14 rushes for 102 yds
*plus*
3 punt returns for 38 yds

Brent, STFU. You're an idiot. :|

Unfortunately, that's the main reason why he didn't get the award. Plus, IU doesn't have the publicity staff like the other schools represented.

And they're not quarterbacks, so I'm failing to see your point.

How about this. If you're a Heisman winning quarterback from the past 15 years or so, your NFL career is gunna suck.

RudeBoie: Have you seen our quarterbacks since wuerffel? hahaha, i think not... lets see Doug Johnson and Jessee Palmer? they sucked then, they suck now... Weve had 3 amazing quarterbacks (while they were in college) Spurrier, Wuerffel, and Grossman. Were just a passing offence so everyone thinks all are qb's have always been great.
